Prabha's Story
Why did she choose dietetics?
Prabha was born in India and adopted by a loving family in Michigan. While she transitioned well into her new family, the American diet was a different challenge. She developed multiple food sensitivities followed with a lack of nutrition counseling.
Food was no longer something she looked forward to, but a chore—an injustice she wanted to correct for other people.
Prabha embarked on her journey into dietetics at Oregon State University while concurrently lending her expertise to the community. Her initiatives included pioneering a nutrition-centered wellness program for the Corvallis Police Department and educating children through nutrition and culinary classes. She also took charge of food safety training at her college's dining hall and orchestrated wellness endeavors within her sorority to champion mental health.
Post-graduation, Prabha seized an internship opportunity at California State University, where she skillfully advocated for wellness across diverse populations throughout the Greater Sacramento Area. Following the attainment of her credentials as a Registered Dietitian, she continued her mission in California, enhancing nutrition counseling and education. Her career path led her through various sectors including Bariatrics, skilled nursing, and family medicine, ultimately landing her in outpatient care at telemedicine companies Vida and Nourish upon her relocation to Hawaii.
Leveraging telehealth and videography, Prabha now extends her reach to a broader audience, offering virtual counseling and crafting educational videos. Through this innovative approach, she addresses healthcare illiteracy, provides personalized nutrition services at the convenience of her patients, and fosters a more accessible understanding of nutrition.
